What is Overnight Extreme?

Overnight extreme is a new community initiative to generate content/awareness/excitement, from the communities to the communities, all in the spirit learning. In competitive segments, prizes will be up for grabs.

The event will stress and push your mental abilities to function, learn in extremely short period of time and apply the knowledge to meet the challenge. A set of challenges/objectives will be set and given out on day of event. The participating entities must meet the objectives to win.

WOW Extreme

Join Asia's first ever World of Warcraft 3v3 Arena tournament and side events.  This is an exclusive spinoff of the official Singapore tour.  Fans of the Trading Card and Miniatures games can participate in the prestigious Darkmoon Faire Championships and win attractive prizes.  Also take this opportunity to mingle and have your picture taken with cosplayers from the World of Warcraft Universe.  Bring a piece of the Faire home with you as a wide range of official World of Warcraft merchandise and souvenirs will be available for sale

What is the Darkmoon Faire?
The Darkmoon Faire is an event that is officially sanctioned by Upper Deck Entertainment. It includes the Trading Card, Miniatures and MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) aspects of the World of Warcraft universe.

We have it all... delicious food, strong drink, exotic artifacts, fortunes read, amazing prizes and excitement without end!
And, don't forget to turn in your Darkmoon Faire Prize Tickets! All it takes is three or more and you're on your way to the most wondrous prizes on all of Azeroth. Everybody is a winner!

Lab Extreme

IT Pros has been doing Hands-On-Labs. In spirit of community sharing and to let you experience how is it like to create Hands-On-Lab, you will CREATE Hands-On-Labs. We will put your names as creator of the contents. Push yourself in 8 hours,  to learn about the technology you will write on, put them into instructional labs, and test the concepts.

Intended Audience

IT Pros who are can endure the stress, learn and has the willingness to share and stand out.

System requirements

Servers (Provided by Microsoft-DPE/SWUG)
- 3 Units of HP ML115, each loaded with 160GB Storage and 8GB of Memory
- Loaded with Windows 2008 R2 RC Build 7100
- SAN Storage Simulation Software (if required)

Laptop (To be brought in by the participant)
- Laptop with a Windows Operating System
- Loaded with MS Word 2007 (Will be used to generate the Hands-On-Lab materials)
- Screen Shooting Software (Entirely up to you, you can use Snip Tool of Vista too)

Internet Access will be provided.

What's an Entity?

A participating Entity can consist of 1 IT Pro or max of 3 IT Pros per entity. An entity can be a single person, a team of 2 IT Pros, or a team of 3 IT Pros. Max at 3 IT Pros per entity.

Why an Entity?

Well, an entity will be how the project is being awarded to. If you win the top prize of $300 vouchers, and you're alone, you bag the entire prize. If there are 3 of you, you can decide how you want to split the bounty.

How do i register an entity?

Only the team leader need to register. On the day of challenge itself, the entire team can show up. However, each team is capped at 3 pax. A max of 5 entities can take part in this challenge.

What technologies be covered?

Contents will be generated based on the new upcoming releases. Primarily, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7. Focus will be on Virtualization, Web (IIS7.5), Windows 7 related contents.

Rules and Regulations:

- Results will be evaluated based on the following;
1. Originality
2. Presentation, clarity and ease of reading of contents
4. Clear Demonstration of Concepts
5. Completeness and Accuracy

- Participants must not plagarize. Content must be generated during the 8 hours. You can refer to contents and reference them, but not copy their work and claim its yours. Internet will be provided to allow you to do research.

- Lab contents must be created to be performed using the assigned servers made available.

- An entity cannot comprise of more than 3 team members.

- Themes of the content to be generated will be balloted on that day of event with objectives. This is to prevent duplication of lab outputs.

Who will own the generated content?

The communities. The content will be passed back to SWUG. SWUG may polish up the content and have them shared over GeeksEngaged.Com. Your name will be listed as the contributor. We will benefit the communities.

Other Notes:

- Drinks and Halal Food will be made available as needed from 10pm to next morning 6am.
- A Event Command Center will be made available throughout the entire event
- No beds will be made available for you to sleep. :-)
- Winner of Lab Extremes will be announced on 23rd May 2009 at 0830 hrs during Keynotes of CTU 2009.
- Organizers reserves the right to make changes without notice
- Judges decisions are final

 Code Extreme

Code Extreme

Code Extreme is a code camp/competition where you pitch your development skills against other peers within the stipulated 8 hours (from 2200 hrs - 0600 hrs) - Yes, it's overnight but that's when all developers are most creative isn't it?

Intended Audience
Any developer who's passionate about doing coding overnight for the first time ever in Singapore!

How do I sign up?
It's really simple, register here.

Is Code Extreme an individual or group event? Can I sign up as an individual or with others?
Register for the event as individuals. During Code Extreme, you can form entities/teams with others (good chance to network!). You can form a team with 3 persons maximum, however, if there are 3 of you, you will have to decide how to split the bounty if you win!

In order for Code Extreme to run, there must be minimally 3 teams competing in the event.

What's in for me?
The bounty for grabs is $300 vouchers. If you join the competition alone, you get to keep the entire bounty by yourself! Else, you'll have to split amongst your team members.

What is the problem definition or 'requirements'?
The theme is the competition is to build a platform to help communities setup online presence where Web 2.0, social networking, social media and online presence (e.g. Live Messenger) are key.

Important features such as wikis, blogs, forums, podcasts are highly required. Note that you're not expected to complete everything as you only have 8 hours. RIA and Ajax features are also desirable.

Note that you're expected to use the ASP.NET provider as your base database schema.

Key Winning Criteria
- Demonstrate basic functionality of WCM, with features to promote member interaction (either online or offline)
- Easy to use for IT Dummies
- Administrative features for site will not be evaluated (aka don't waste your time!)
- Showcase of latest technology - ASP.NET 4.0 OR MVC/Dynamic Data OR Ajax OR Silverlight
- Following of good design practices and guidelines
- Additional points will be given to mobile enabling the site
- Judging Criterias: Creativity - 20%, Completeness - 20%, Usage of Latest Technologies - 20%, 'Good' Design - 20%, Ease of use (Usability) - 20%, Bonus - 5%

System Requirements
You're expected to bring your own laptop for the code competition. You can choose to install Visual Studio 2010 CTP on your base machine or use Virtual PC 2007 SP1 to virtualise Visual Studio 2010 CTP. Below are the minimum system specifications for each option:

1) Base Machine
- Windows XP SP3 and above
- 50GB Harddisk space
- 2GB RAM

2) Virtualised
- Windows XP SP3 and above
- 60GB Hardisk space
- 3GB RAM (more the merrier)
- External harddisk (running virtual machine on external harddisk will run faster)

Rules and Regulations
- Participants are encouraged to collaborate with other participants (and have separate submissions!) within the time specified
- Telerik controls are available for use (optional)
- Ensure that your system meets the minimal system requirements specified above
- Content generated will belong to the community
- Contestants must deploy their source code and executables to a designated server during the competition at 6am (23rd May 2009) 
- Contestants are required to do a quick demo of their submitted product
- Judges' decisions are final
