Code Extreme
Code Extreme is a code camp/competition where you pitch your development skills against other peers within the stipulated 8 hours (from 2200 hrs - 0600 hrs) - Yes, it's overnight but that's when all developers are most creative isn't it?
Intended Audience
Any developer who's passionate about doing coding overnight for the first time ever in Singapore!
How do I sign up?
It's really simple, register here.
Is Code Extreme an individual or group event? Can I sign up as an individual or with others?
Register for the event as individuals. During Code Extreme, you can form entities/teams with others (good chance to network!). You can form a team with 3 persons maximum, however, if there are 3 of you, you will have to decide how to split the bounty if you win!
In order for Code Extreme to run, there must be minimally 3 teams competing in the event.
What's in for me?
The bounty for grabs is $300 vouchers. If you join the competition alone, you get to keep the entire bounty by yourself! Else, you'll have to split amongst your team members.
What is the problem definition or 'requirements'?
The theme is the competition is to build a platform to help communities setup online presence where Web 2.0, social networking, social media and online presence (e.g. Live Messenger) are key.
Important features such as wikis, blogs, forums, podcasts are highly required. Note that you're not expected to complete everything as you only have 8 hours. RIA and Ajax features are also desirable.
Note that you're expected to use the ASP.NET provider as your base database schema.
Key Winning Criteria
- Demonstrate basic functionality of WCM, with features to promote member interaction (either online or offline)
- Easy to use for IT Dummies
- Administrative features for site will not be evaluated (aka don't waste your time!)
- Showcase of latest technology - ASP.NET 4.0 OR MVC/Dynamic Data OR Ajax OR Silverlight
- Following of good design practices and guidelines
- Additional points will be given to mobile enabling the site
- Judging Criterias: Creativity - 20%, Completeness - 20%, Usage of Latest Technologies - 20%, 'Good' Design - 20%, Ease of use (Usability) - 20%, Bonus - 5%
System Requirements
You're expected to bring your own laptop for the code competition. You can choose to install Visual Studio 2010 CTP on your base machine or use Virtual PC 2007 SP1 to virtualise Visual Studio 2010 CTP. Below are the minimum system specifications for each option:
1) Base Machine
- Windows XP SP3 and above
- 50GB Harddisk space
- 2GB RAM
2) Virtualised
- Windows XP SP3 and above
- 60GB Hardisk space
- 3GB RAM (more the merrier)
- External harddisk (running virtual machine on external harddisk will run faster)
Rules and Regulations
- Participants are encouraged to collaborate with other participants (and have separate submissions!) within the time specified
- Telerik controls are available for use (optional)
- Ensure that your system meets the minimal system requirements specified above
- Content generated will belong to the community
- Contestants must deploy their source code and executables to a designated server during the competition at 6am (23rd May 2009)
- Contestants are required to do a quick demo of their submitted product
- Judges' decisions are final
